Lavaux, terraces, a lake and one day
Vineyard terraces above the lake, a path that can stay short, and Leukerbad again in the evening.
Updated 27 October 2026

Lavaux is the day when vines, water and mountains sit in one view. The terraces run above the lake. In the evening you are back in Leukerbad, and the glass is on your table.
Terraces that belong to the place
The vineyard terraces of Lavaux are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Wine has grown here since the Middle Ages, on walls that hold the slope. It is the landscape itself.

A path swings through the rows, the lake lies beyond, a place on the shore to the right. You walk as far as the shortest legs want. Picnic spots and villages with small cellars sit along the way. One stage is enough.

In colder light the vines are brown, the roofs red, the lake dark blue, the mountains still white. The same place, another season. The tower in the village is the point you steer by.
Chasselas, and the evening at home

Lavaux is known for fresh white wines, above all Chasselas: light, mineral, good with food. In the Valais the grape is often called Fendant. You bring a bottle back to Leukerbad and open it when the children are playing or asleep.

In Alpine Siesta the children’s room is waiting: two beds, a rocking horse, a shelf. The thermal baths are a ten-minute walk if the day by the lake ran long.
