Rainy days with children in Leukerbad

Bad weather belongs to a family holiday. In Leukerbad a rainy day still does not have to be a lost day. The baths, the sports arena and the apartment are close enough that you do not have to organise “something big anyway”. You walk ten minutes, or you stay in.

Why rain is less stressful here
Many places sit together. In the rain that is the real advantage, not an indoor park. Short walks, a plan you can drop at lunch, and a place where energy is allowed to fall. Nobody has to save the day.
Warmth: the baths
The outdoor pool sits in front of the rock face. Warm water, and you are in the middle of the holiday. From the apartment it is about ten minutes on foot.
The sports arena, without sun
A hall, ice, a few skaters: on a rainy day that is already an outing. Ball sports, a gym and climbing under a roof are there when the children want them.
In the region there are halls for letting off steam. This castle’s arch says Île aux Palmiers. In the apartment that day it is the games, the play kitchen and the children’s room.
A short time outside, then back in
Bad weather does not mean sitting inside all day. Often a turn around the houses is enough, then warmth. Many winter paths can be cut short. Many winter paths are short enough to turn round when it gets wet.
Staying in the apartment is a plan
The cupboard is in the apartment. You can see board games, controllers and a red tin. Fondue and raclette go on the induction hob. We do not leave the cheese sliced in the fridge.
The children’s room is the apartment too: two beds, the rocking toy, the play kitchen, and the rock face in the window even when it rains. House-trained pets may come. The children’s room stays for the children. Smoking is on the balcony only, even in the rain.
From Alpine Siesta the baths and the sports arena are about ten minutes on foot. You can come back whenever you want.
